Shots-fired report at Indian Lake Central School was a swatting hoax, State Police say

New York State Police confirm a shots-fired report at Indian Lake Central School was a swatting hoax. No threat found in the Adirondack school incident.

New York State Police say a report of shots fired at Indian Lake Central School on Thursday morning was a swatting hoax. Troopers found no threat.

State Police responded to the school at about 11:05 a.m. on October 22, 2026, after receiving the report. The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office also responded. School officials told law enforcement that no shots had been fired.

Authorities secured the school and searched it. Investigators determined there was no threat to the school and confirmed the incident was a hoax.

School officials are working to set up a reunification process and to notify parents about what happened.

Swatting is the practice of making a false report of a serious emergency to draw a large police response.
