Five State Police Troop B members in Ray Brook are suspended following an investigation into an October incident. Impacting Saranac Lake and Lake Placid.
Five members of State Police Troop B in Ray Brook have been suspended as part of an ongoing investigation into an incident that happened last October, State Police confirmed Thursday.
State Police said the administrative investigation is still underway and that no further details are available at this time. State Police have not said what the October incident involved, whether the troopers are suspended with or without pay, or which stations within Troop B they work out of.
Troop B is headquartered in Ray Brook, between Saranac Lake and Lake Placid. It covers roughly 8,000 square miles across Essex, Franklin, Clinton, and St. Lawrence counties plus half of Hamilton County, operating 20 stations with hundreds of troopers.
These are the troopers who respond here. Troop B handled the Jay homicide investigation earlier this month, the Black Brook weapons seizure, and the routine calls that make up most of what we cover on the public safety beat.
Almost everything. State Police have released the number of troopers suspended, the troop, and a rough timeframe for the underlying incident — and nothing else. There's no indication yet whether this is a criminal matter, an internal policy violation, or something else.
Administrative investigations within State Police are handled either by the Professional Standards Bureau, which independently investigates what the agency calls "serious or complex" allegations, or by troop commanders themselves for matters considered routine.
Troop B's commander is Maj. Peter Arcadi, a lifelong North Country resident and second-generation trooper who took over in September 2025. In an interview around his swearing-in, Arcadi emphasized holding troopers accountable for improper actions, saying it matters even when it means disciplining fellow officers.
Somebody knows what happened last October. If that's you — a trooper, a dispatcher, a civilian employee, someone who was there, someone who heard about it — we want to hear from you.
