Saranac Lake School Board to Name Co-Athletic Administrators, Adopt 13 Policies Sept. 30

The Saranac Lake Central School District Board of Education is hiring new athletic administrators and adopting student safety and data privacy policies.

The Saranac Lake Central School District Board of Education will meet Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 5:30 p.m. in the Petrova Elementary board room. The agenda includes new athletic appointments and a batch of 13 policy adoptions.

On the superintendent's recommendation, the board is set to appoint Suzanne Nicholas and Melissa Butler as co-athletic administrators, as outlined in a memorandum of agreement between the district and the SLAA. Nicholas is also listed for appointment to the 2026-27 event staff.

Other personnel items include Meghan Wolter as a mentor for the 2026-27 school year, Nancy Stephenson and Olivia Thrasher as part-time school monitors, and Alayna Hester as a teacher aide, effective Oct. 19.

The board will also be asked to approve the current budgetary transfer report. The agenda does not list the amounts.

Policies up for adoption

Resolution 027-2026 would adopt 13 policies and regulations, including non-discrimination and equal opportunity; timeout and physical restraint; virtual, blended and remote learning; student attendance; school admissions; students in temporary housing; child abuse, maltreatment or neglect in a domestic setting; student records; extreme heat condition days; and information and data privacy, security, breach and notification.

A further eight policies get a first reading, among them student dismissal precautions and several student-records and FERPA notices. Two suggested policies on admitting international students are also listed for possible addition.

Under new business, the board will discuss the Bloomingdale Use Committee and the New York State School Boards Association's proposed resolutions. A NYSSBA superintendent evaluation is scheduled for 6 p.m., and an executive session is anticipated.

The meeting is open to the public, with a public comment period early in the agenda.
